Every summer, these tuxedoed birds vie for prime real estate on the sandy shores of Simon’s Town, south of Cape Town, and stir things up. While humans apply sun block and wax their surfboards, these endangered little guys, who have adapted to heat and can travel long distances, are causing traffic jams in the streets and bringing mayhem to this tropical paradise. Their mission: find a mate, make babies and not go extinct! Episode Descriptions:
Ep. 1: Homecoming: Two and a half thousand African penguins flock to Simon's Town, South Africa. Mr. and Mrs. Bougainvillea (“B.”) move back into their beloved bush – and find a new, grumpy neighbor. Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Culvert (“C.”) prepare to take on the world. Junior, the adolescent, has a long road ahead.
Ep. 2: The Nest Generation: Keeping eggs safe is a full-time job for both parents and the Bougainvillea’s face predators who’d kill for an egg breakfast. The newlywed Culverts come face to face with other unexpected challenges. Junior is abducted by “aliens,” who might just save his life.
Ep. 3: Hot and Bothered: Mr. and Mrs. B welcome the newest members of the family. Living by the beach delivers the Culverts a tough test. Things look up for Junior, but if he wants his freedom, he’s got to get in shape.
Ep. 4: Lost and Found: The baby boom is in full swing. Mr. and Mrs. B face their toughest challenge yet, while the newlywed Culverts face a difficult loss. We meet the Courtyards, an aristocratic couple who promptly claim their newest castle. Junior's hard work finally pays off.
Ep. 5: Close Encounters: The Bougainvillea’s chicks (son Twig and daughter Petal) deal with the dangers of life alone while Mr. B hunts. We meet a new family - The Wheelbarrows - who live in an upside down handcart. The Courtyards discover that they’ve built their nest behind a home inhabited by giants.
Ep. 6: Weekend Warriors: Unlikely saviours rescue the Bougainvilleas from the bullying Car Park Gang. The Wheelbarrows give their teenagers some tough love, and Lord Courtyard navigates the weekend rush (hour).
Ep 7: Beyond the Nest: A female admirer follows Lord Courtyard home — but Lady C isn't amused. The Wheelbarrows want to lay more eggs. Twig is ready to set out on his own.
Ep. 8: Learning to Fly: As the summer season winds down, something strange is going on. Nature reclaims the streets of Penguin Town. Mr. B faces off with a fierce predator, and some youngster may finally get to fly.
